The house
Southern SunRed-brick garden manor
Built like a classic London townhouse, the red-brick property trades street traffic for an elevated fourth-floor garden and open-air lap pool.
What it’s good at
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
guest rooms and suites are large and elegantly outfitted with huge windows, fluffy feather-top beds, roomy work desks, and sleek bathrooms, all in a sophisticated palette.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
A covered second-floor bridge leads directly into Rosebank Mall, and the Rosebank Gautrain station sits just across the avenue.
The rooms
Wide windows look out across the garden terrace, and bathrooms come fitted with marble and walk-in rainfall showers.
The lap pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The narrow lap pool runs along the terrace lawn, looking past ivy-draped brick toward distant green hills.
Level Four Restaurant
Checkered tile floors and houndstooth armchairs furnish the dining room, where dinner reinterprets classic cuisine with contemporary influences.
At the table
The fourth-floor bar pours botanical gin cocktails and Champagne, and pastry chefs prepare delicate tartlets for afternoon tea.
How it began

Guy Steenekamp designed the red-brick building in 1997 as The Grace, an independent hotel founded by the Brand family.
