With stone pathways, clay-tiled roofs and bamboo stalks jutting from nearly every corner, the place has an Old World charm…
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Set in a valley west of West Lake, seven Buddhist temples and cliffside carvings sit within walking distance along ancient pilgrimage trails.

The rooms
Spare interiors feature pale elm furnishings, stone floors, calligraphy scrolls, and radiant underfloor heating opening onto private flagstone courtyards.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The 20-meter outdoor swimming pool sits among green trees and stone terraces beside a traditional tiled pavilion.
The spa
Bathhouse pavilions hold circular wooden soaking tubs. Daily sessions include courtyard tai chi and singing bowl sound therapy.
At the table
Restaurants across the village serve steamed Hangzhou dishes, and the bar mixes drinks beneath exposed timber trusses.
How it began

Once an 18th-century tea-pickers' hamlet called Fayun, the former stone dormitories and brick cottages were sensitively restored to preserve their original timber architecture.
