The house
AmanPioneering tented camp
Seventeen canvas pavilions line the Flores Sea, running as a wilderness camp where sand paths take the place of roads.
“At Amanwana, you’ll meditate below the waves, breathe in rhythm with the ocean, and maybe even swim with a whale shark or two.”
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Canvas pavilions set on coral stone podiums with teak floors, by Jean-Michel Gathy.
What they say
Also in Michelin, Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
there’s no sign of human habitation, apart from the 17 luxury tents that make up the resort, and the open-air pavilions that house the hotel’s facilities.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
The island has no roads or cars. Footpaths lead through the forest toward the spring-fed pools of Mata Jitu Waterfall.
The rooms
Canvas ceilings soar above polished teak floors and net-draped beds. Large picture windows look straight onto the forest or the bay.
The spa
The open-air Jungle Cove Spa sits at the water's edge, with sunken bathtubs shaded beneath the forest canopy.
The Restaurant
A thatched pavilion rests on tall coconut pillars, serving daily catches from local fishing boats and herbs from the garden.
This secluded hammock is nestled along the shore of Moyo Island at the Amanwana eco-resort. Trek from your tent to the edge of the protected marine park, sit back, and enjoy the turquoise waters.
At the table
Tables are set along the sand at twilight, lit by lanterns hung from trees beside an evening firepit.
How it began

Not a single tree was felled during construction in 1993, honoring an agreement to leave the island ecosystem unharmed.
