Vibe
Distressed plaster, original factory brickwork, and curated modern art create a relaxed, bohemian gathering spot on historic Portland Square.
“Bohemian boot factory”
Industrial brickwork, limewashed walls, and reclaimed Georgian cornicing pair with eclectic vintage furniture and curated contemporary prints.
Occupies a Grade I-listed Georgian townhouse and former Victorian boot factory preserved with original beams and masonry.
Artworks by Bristol creatives line the walls alongside locally sourced provisions and regional craft drinks.
On Portland Square in St Pauls, a short walk from Cabot Circus and the city center.
“This one, occupying a Georgian townhouse (and a former boot factory) on Portland Square, is a tribute to Bristol’s unique artistic heritage.”
Rooms
Bedrooms pair exposed brick and pitched beams with bespoke vintage furniture, while select Loft and Club rooms add freestanding cast-iron tubs.
Backstory
Once on the national At Risk register, this Grade I-listed Georgian residence and Victorian workshop was saved and revived in 2021.
Eat & drink
The Boot Factory serves sourdough pizzas, seasonal small plates, and local craft beers beneath exposed beams and oversized factory windows.
The neighborhood
Set on Portland Square in St Paul's, you are steps from the vibrant street art and independent cafes of Stokes Croft.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
