The petite 15th-century Palacio Paredes Saavedra was thoughtfully restored by acclaimed Spanish architects Tuñón y Albornoz, and the result is dazzling: the building’s original vaulted ceilings and arching doorways remain, but the stone walls are overlaid with pale wood, and the floors with polished concrete, giving the interiors an ethereal glow.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Plaza de San Mateo sits at the centre of the walled Old Town, surrounded by Gothic towers and winding stone alleys.
The rooms
Dark floors and pale timber give the bedrooms a spare, quiet calm against the ancient stone outside.
The plunge pools
Bring a swimsuit.
Twin granite plunge pools sit under white pergolas on the rooftop terrace, reflecting the belfry of the neighboring church.
The spa and gym
A timber-lined gym holds cardio equipment, and the private wellness suite has a steam hammam and magnesium salt pool.
Restaurant
Atrio Restaurante
Chef Toño Pérez serves three-Michelin-starred Extremaduran tasting menus across linen-draped tables overlooking a planted courtyard.
With its angular, ribbed facade, Atrio is an emphatically contemporary addition to the labyrinth of World Heritage churches, monasteries and Renaissance palaces in Cáceres.
How it began

Early plans for a modern facade sparked fierce local protests, leading to a redesign that preserved the medieval streetscape.
