it’s a cluster of beautifully-restored bungalows in Sri Lanka’s hill country, rather than a whopping British stately pile, the make-yourself-at-home vibe gives it a house party feel.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Planter trails wind across the Bogawantalawa valley, linking active tea fields and drying factories to neighboring bungalows.
The rooms
Mahogany antiques and clawfoot tubs furnish the suites, and staff tuck hot water bottles under the covers each evening.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The curved pool looks out over the valley and tea hills, with an adjoining heated Jacuzzi beside the sun deck.
At the table
Meals are served in the conservatory beside an antique gramophone, and a help-yourself drinks trolley waits in the lounge.
These four plantation bungalows, lovingly restored in a hybrid colonial/contemporary style, are scattered widely along the valley, each divided into a handful of suites or available in their entirety.
How it began

Dilmah tea scion Malik Fernando returned from Boston to restore the 1890 planter residence, opening it to guests in 2005.
