Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel
Venice, Italy
Vibe
Gentle piano chords drift across the soaring four-storey Gothic atrium, where guests gather over afternoon refreshments beneath hand-painted gilded ceilings.
“Venetian Gothic stalwart”
A fourteenth-century Gothic palace built for Doge Enrico Dandolo that has welcomed travelers since 1822.
Restored interiors by Pierre-Yves Rochon blending Gothic tracery, pink marble columns, and custom Rubelli textiles.
Two centuries of Venetian hospitality centered around the storied ground-floor piano lounge and rooftop terrace.
On Riva degli Schiavoni facing the lagoon, steps from Piazza San Marco and the Doge's Palace.
“As one of city's most important landmarks, the Hotel Danieli—and the 204 stately guest rooms within—are a showcase of Venetian excellence.”
Rooms
Restored chambers layer pastel damasks and lagoon views, where automated curtains part to reveal San Giorgio Maggiore across the water.
Wellness
The spa pairs a hammam and sauna with treatment suites offering heated Murano glass stone massages alongside a canal-side relaxation lounge.
“Few hotels embody the romance of old-world Italian hospitality quite like Danieli, the Venetian Gothic masterpiece that became a hotel in 1822.”
Backstory
Giuseppe Dal Niel transformed the fifteenth-century Dandolo palace into a hotel in 1822, eventually uniting three historic waterfront palazzos.
“The gilded lobby, with its Murano glass chandeliers, pink marble columns, and stained-glass windows, sets the opulent tone throughout.”
Eat & drink
Sip Vesper martinis beneath lobby arches at Bar Dandolo, or head upstairs to Terrazza Danieli for Venetian plates over open lagoon panoramas.

Step directly onto the bustling Riva degli Schiavoni promenade, moments from the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs, and Piazza San Marco.

Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
