The Heldmann family runs this hotel as an eccentric culinary guesthouse, where dinner is a multi-course spectacle and every space surprises.
What it’s good at

Die Wunderkammer's sidewalk terrace hums across the lane from the Michelin-starred dining room.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Rooms and suites are all thoroughly unique, each based on a theme, and the design ranges from eclectic — animal prints, free-standing copper bathtubs, wooden sinks, retro waterbeds — to avant-garde.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The Bohnenviertel is right outside, where cobbled lanes lead past antique shops and wine bars toward nearby Charlottenplatz.
The rooms
Every room follows a distinct theme. Some have freestanding copper tubs, and Room Sunrise opens onto a terrace with an open-air bath.

Restaurant
Der Zauberlehrling
Fabian Heldmann serves seasonal tasting menus in the Michelin-starred dining room, beside an open fireplace and backlit gold walls.
At the table
The vaulted brick cellar hosts tastings at a long communal table, set under pendant lights and surrounded by vintage wine crates.
How it began

Founder Axel Heldmann took over a tavern called The Broom in 1993, renaming it after Goethe's ballad of the sorcerer's apprentice.
