Noucentista landmark hotel
The hotel was built in 1926 as a monumental residence, offering an orderly counterweight to the tangled Gothic Quarter outside.
“This luxury hotel melds historic charm with 21st-century designer sass, located deep in the middle of Barcelona’s bustle.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Custom furnishings channel clean Noucentista geometry and soft Mediterranean colour palettes.

Can Bo pours regional wines downstairs and rooftop DJ sessions soundtrack sunset drinks.
What they say
Michelin Selected

Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
Spacious, cool and clutter-free, the Grand Hotel Central melds the scale and efficiency of a business hotel with the textures and colors of a city-center boutique hotel.
In a lively part of town
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
The front doors open onto Via Laietana, placing the Gothic Quarter on one side and El Born on the other.
The rooms
Slatted timber screens divide the bedrooms, where headboards are upholstered in muted blush and green.
The rooftop pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The eighth-floor infinity pool looks out over the rooftops of Ciutat Vella, bordered by timber decking and daybeds.
The spa and gym
The eighth-floor spa includes a Finnish sauna and hammam, and the adjacent fitness studio looks over the Gothic Quarter.
Restaurant
Can Bo
The street-level dining room serves Catalan tapas and pours 150 regional wines around a curved leather bar.
The redesign has given the rooms a cool, colorful, and decidedly Mediterranean vibe (to replace the rather corporate—dare we say, slightly soulless—former look).
At the table
La Terraza del Central serves Mediterranean sharing plates and cocktails under fabric pergolas overlooking the city.
How it began

Politician Francesc Cambó commissioned the building after visiting Chicago, introducing one of Barcelona's first passenger lifts in 1926.
