Green Solution House
Circular timber hotel
Circular timber hotel
Cross-laminated timber and closed-loop systems shape this woodland property, conceived as a living testbed for zero-waste architecture.
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Exposed cross-laminated timber structures house bespoke furniture crafted from construction offcuts.
What they say
Also in AFAR.
The hotel is rated silver in the DGNB system (the highest certification for a hotel building). It has become a pioneer in sustainable design solutions, almost a laboratory of sorts, where many materials have been tested.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Woodland grounds lead down toward the Baltic shore, and central Rønne is an easy bike ride away.
The rooms
In the timber wing, rooms leave their wooden frames exposed and open onto private balconies facing the trees.
The rooftop hot tub
The outdoor hot tub bubbles on the timber roof, set beside a cold plunge bucket shower overlooking the woodland.
The spa terrace
Wooden deck chairs and beanbags line the sheltered rooftop terrace, looking out across the surrounding canopy.
At the table
Breakfast tables sit by floor-to-ceiling garden windows, serving a morning spread certified with the silver Organic Cuisine Label.
How it began

Dry-goods merchant Carl Edvard Mogensen opened the original hotel in 1966 after traveling salesmen complained that Bornholm lacked private bathrooms.
