Chiapan modernist hideaway
Sunlight and stillness fill the central courtyard, where open-air fire pits and quiet garden alcoves invite unhurried afternoons and mezcal evenings.
“The architecture reveals strong Danish Modern influences, but the furnishings owe their provenance to the indigenous peoples.”
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Clean-lined modern architecture wraps an interior garden centered around a geometric water mirror pool and solitary tree.
Notable
Blom Bar and garden reflection pools draw an evening crowd for mezcal cocktails beside outdoor fire pits.
Notable
Interiors feature hand-woven Chiapan coverlets, indigenous pulled-wool rugs, and rich regional woodwork celebrating local Mayan craftsmanship.

the grounded, forward-thinking design carves up the public spaces in clean-lined modern style
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Set in Barrio de Mexicanos, the hotel sits a short walk from vibrant textile markets, Central Park, and colonial churches.
The rooms
Hand-woven Chiapan textiles and pulled-wool rugs soften timber interiors, while select suites feature private solarium terraces and fireplaces.
The spa
Ninab Relax Room provides regional ritual bodywork and hot stone massages in a dedicated treatment space.
Dogs stay too.
Blom Bar
Folding timber doors open to the garden reflecting pool, where bartenders serve regional mezcal cocktails under geometric tilework.
The stylish crowd, mostly young, hip, and well-coiffed, hails from Mexico City or Veracruz, throwing back international cocktails in the lobby or outside by the reflecting pools…
At the table
Glass-walled Lum serves refined Chiapan cuisine under timber roof trusses, opening onto tables around the courtyard water mirror.
How it began

Named after the Tsotsil Mayan word for water, the hotel was designed around the four elements by Muro Rojo Arquitectura.
“The four elements—wind, water, fire, and earth—are central to the hotel’s aesthetic, with different design details, such as fireplaces and candles, alluding to these elements.”
