Outside the door

Lava field country inn

The inn feels like a remote coastal homestead, where guests watch Atlantic storms roll in over drams of single malt.

Hótel Búðir
“Its location is utterly magical. Sitting on a remote peninsula a two-hour drive from Reykjavík, it has the sea behind it, a lava field in front.”
— Condé Nast Traveler

What they say

Michelin Selected

Michelin

Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.

Its rooms are contemporary but fairly traditional in inspiration, with the exception of the modernist-inspired master suite; all are comfortable.

Tucked away

A place apart: the property is the destination.

The historic black church of Búðakirkja is the only neighbor, with mossy lava fields giving way to yellow-sand beaches.

The rooms

Rooms are painted in chocolate and cream and hung with antique wildlife prints. Windows look out across the mossy lava.

The restaurant is simply decorated with wooden tables and chairs, lace curtains, traditional paintings, and— the main draw aesthetically— huge windows.

At the table

The teal-tiled bar pours cocktails and craft beer, and the lounge looks out across the sea.
