Hôtel Casadelmar
Porto-Vecchio, France
Vibe
Terraced gardens of cypress and parasol pines step down toward the bay, where quiet days drift between swimming pontoon and sun deck.
“Minimalist cedar hideaway”
Weathered red cedar cladding and floor-to-ceiling glass frame panoramic views across terraced Mediterranean gardens.
Every sea-facing room features a private panoramic terrace, bespoke Frette linens, and private boat transfers.
A heated twenty-five-meter infinity pool, private swimming pontoon, and spa treatments infused with wild Corsican maquis.
On a hillside peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, set within terraced Mediterranean gardens.
“Casadelmar’s silhouette is rigorously modern, though its weathered cedar surfaces blend harmoniously into the landscape.”
Rooms
Private gulf-facing terraces open into interiors of raw oak and mushroom tile, brightened by Bertoia chairs and playful accents of cherry or grape.
“Casadelmar breathed new life into the "boutique" hotel idiom with a modern wood-paneled exterior and an array of original and amusing details.”
Wellness
A 25-meter heated infinity pool overlooks the gulf, complemented by a Finnish sauna, steam hammam, and treatments using wild Corsican botanicals.
Backstory
Acquired in 2001 by Jean-Noël Marcellesi, the hillside was transformed by architect Jean-François Bodin into a low-slung modernist pavilion of Bateig stone and cedar.
Eat & drink
Two-Michelin-starred Casadelmar crafts Mediterranean haute cuisine with local seafood, while Il Pontile offers grilled catches under wisteria pergolas.
The neighborhood
Set along the Palombaggia peninsula, the property sits secluded above the water, with boat transfers crossing the bay to sister beach clubs.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
