Stilted desert cabins
Conceived as an antiresort, twenty cabins stand on steel stilts so native desert flora grows undisturbed underneath.
“Camping goes modern at a 99-acre retreat above Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico. Kiva fireplaces spell Baja summer.”
What it’s good at
Listed
Clay kiva fireplaces warm private wooden decks facing the surrounding valley vineyards.
What they say
Also in Wallpaper* and AFAR.
Set on the rocky hills of Valle de Guadalupe, the eco resort of Endémico Resguardo Silvestre is a short drive from the Pacific Ocean and just 40 minutes from San Diego airport.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
On a boulder-strewn hillside in Valle de Guadalupe, surrounded by wild desert scrub and private vineyards.
The rooms
Floor-to-ceiling glass looks straight across the boulder-strewn valley, and each compact cabin opens onto a private terrace.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The infinity pool cantilevers over the rocky hillside, with wooden pergola daybeds looking out across the valley.
The hot tub
A round concrete hot tub sits sunken into the hillside among desert boulders, just along the terrace from the pool.
Dogs stay too.
At the table
Restaurante TOBA serves regional dishes on the pool terrace, and the estate tasting room pours wine made on the mountain.
How it began

Architect Jorge Gracia designed the cabins in 2011, using weathering steel that rusts to match the rocky hillside.
