The house
IHGRestored motor-house tower
The hotel runs as a modern high-rise built above the preserved 1912 facades of an early motor house.
What it’s good at
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The front doors open directly onto St Patrick's Square, with Queen Street and the Sky Tower a short walk away.
The rooms
Rear-view mirrors hang above the beds, and open wardrobes take their cues from industrial scaffolding.
The gym
The gym on Level 2 has strength equipment and a Reformer Pilates machine set beside large paned windows.
Dogs stay too.
Restaurant
Bistro Saine
Chef Yutak Son prepares French-Mediterranean dishes in an open kitchen, and the wine wall holds over 200 bottles.
At the table
The Halligan serves craft cocktails under glowing sconces and velvet drapery, taking its name from the site's motoring past.
How it began

Dexter and Crozier built the original Motor House on this plot to import New Zealand's very first Cadillacs.
