What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
...the rooms in the historic wing may be marked by a touch more Art Deco ornament, but all of them are a confident mix of retro elegance and contemporary cool.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The entrance opens onto cobblestone Vene street, a short walk from the medieval Town Hall Square.
The rooms
Historic-wing rooms keep their high ceilings and tall windows, with replica rotary phones on the bedside tables.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The heated 10-metre pool sits beneath a natural skylight, fed by carved stone fountains beside a green wall.
The whirlpool and saunas
A circular mosaic whirlpool bubbles beneath the glass roof, with a Finnish sauna and steam bath nearby.
Restaurant Tchaikovsky
Crystal chandeliers hang beneath an arched glass roof, where dinner draws on French techniques and Russian culinary traditions.
Half its rooms are in an elegant former post office and classically furnished in a cream-and-white palette, while those in the new wing have bolder colors.
At the table
The Lobby Bar has checkered marble floors and an open fireplace, with armchairs set for evening cocktails.
How it began

An Estonian general intercepted rebels on the lobby staircase in 1924, preventing them from seizing the telegraph transmitters.
