The Valencia’s 200-plus guest rooms are stylish and creatively lit spaces, fusing classic good looks with the kind of contemporary style you’d expect to see on the coasts.
In a lively part of town
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
The Majestic Theatre and the Alamo are an easy walk down Houston Street, and water taxis dock right outside.
The rooms
Beds have curved wrought-iron headboards set against relief plaster, and courtyard rooms look inward away from the river.
Restaurant
Dorrego's
The Argentine menu focuses on steaks and South American wines, served across patterned tile floors and a river-view terrace.
The hotel underwent a full renovation in 2017, doubling down on the Spanish Colonial style with elegant ironwork, hand-crafted tiles, and a stunning vaulted ceiling reminiscent of a Rioja wine cellar.
At the table
Naranja pours tequilas and artisanal mezcal with Latin small plates. Drinks carry out to covered banquettes and the third-floor courtyard.
How it began

Construction preserved the 1888 Alfred Giles storefront on Houston Street, reversing every brick to expose its undamaged face.
