What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
A 19th-century mansion in the historic heart of Ballarat is promising raw material for a boutique hotel, and Hotel Vera Ballarat amply delivers.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The Art Gallery of Ballarat is an easy walk down Sturt Street, and Lake Wendouree lies just beyond.
The rooms
Each suite takes its wall color from a Goldfields township, and select rooms have deep freestanding bathtubs.
Restaurant
Babae
Degustation menus draw on regional Goldfields produce in a modern pavilion facing an open marble counter.
Alfresco Bar and Courtyard
A solid marble bar and green stools sit beneath a circular skylight beside the courtyard reflection pool.
How it began

Co-owner David Cook-Doulton named the hotel after his grandmother Vera, reviving the 1880s surgery of physician Stanislaus Zichy-Woinarski.
