Tucked in directly behind the humbler, more traditional Hotel Edda is a glass-faced modernist structure containing some 46 clean-lined, light-filled bedrooms, just the sort of thing you might expect — but so rarely find — in 21st-century Iceland.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Hiking trails crisscross Mount Reynisfjall directly behind the building, and the black-sand beach is a four-minute walk away.
The rooms
Floor-to-ceiling windows look out toward the sea. Bathrooms have heated tile floors and rainfall showers.
The gym
The fitness room has light wood floors and is equipped with cardio machines and free weights.
At the table
Woven pendant lamps hang over tufted banquettes at Restaurant Berg, which serves Westfjords fish and Icelandic lamb.
How it began

A local family ran the traditional Hotel Edda next door for years before building their own hotel in 1994.
