A ski resort near Nagano may sound like an unlikely spot for a hotel dedicated to a Danish modernist architect, but there’s a longstanding relationship between the two.
“Each of the six rooms - all named after a Finn Juhl masterpiece - and all the public areas are dressed with Juhl classics such as the ‘Poet’ sofa, ‘Chieftain’ chair, sideboards, tables and more, while his drawings and sketches grace the walls throughout.”
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Local hot springs and village restaurants are an easy walk away, with the 1998 Olympic ski jumps just down the road.
The rooms
Each bedroom is arranged around a signature chair or sofa, paired with pale timber floors and custom wood headboards.
At the table
The communal dining room serves Japanese breakfast made with local organic ingredients, and the timber bar pours evening sake.
How it began

Danish furniture makers scouting for a private family ski cabin found a derelict 1970s lodge and rebuilt it instead.
