ICEHOTEL
Sculpted Arctic ice hotel
Sculpted Arctic ice hotel
The hotel is carved from Torne River ice, operating as an inhabitable gallery where guests sleep inside sub-zero art installations.
“It’s that blue found in the water of higher latitudes, a blue that looks photoshopped although no photograph seems to be able to reproduce it with fidelity.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Arctic grounds host seasonal ice sculpting and Torne River rafting under midnight sun.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
Interiors—ice-sculpted suites ranging from 323–430 square feet, built on reinforced pillars, snow, and everything snice—will be conceptualized by a handpicked collection of international designers.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
The Torne River borders the grounds, opening into Arctic wilderness two hundred kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.
The rooms
Chiseled ice frames hold mattresses draped in reindeer hides, kept at minus five degrees with thermal sleeping bags.
The saunas
Sauna rituals use birch whisks and Arctic tar soap, leading to soaks in heated outdoor bathtubs.
Bar
ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL
Drinks are poured into glasses chiseled from river ice, served at a frozen counter beneath vaulted snow ceilings.
At the table
Seasonal Arctic dishes are served beneath undulating fabric ceilings, with select courses brought out on carved river ice.
How it began

Founder Yngve Bergqvist initially built a riverside igloo gallery in 1989. When local lodges booked up, visitors asked to sleep inside.
