What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
a modern interpretation of Japan’s timeless ryokan tradition. Many of the rooms and suites have views of the Seto Inland Sea, the peak of Mt. Misen, or both.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Omotesando shopping street sits right outside the door, and Itsukushima Shrine is a five-minute walk along the water.
The rooms
Most rooms look toward the Seto Inland Sea or Mount Misen, lined with pale timber and woven rush mats.
The rooftop baths
Indoor baths open onto fifth-floor rooftop tubs overlooking the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains.
At the table
Chefs plate seasonal Setouchi dishes at a long timber counter set against an illuminated display of Hiroshima sakes.
How it began

The property began in 1867 as Higashiya Ryokan, hosting island travelers for generations before architect Yoshiji Takehara redesigned the building.
