Set in a restored 1908 Art Nouveau courthouse on Riemergasse, Mandarin Oriental’s first Austrian outpost captures the character of Vienna’s First District with poise and purpose.
“The interiors—mostly in soft gray and creamy off-white with light-blue and dusky-pink moments—are flush with marble, Pannonian oak parquet, and custom corridor carpeting…”
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Set on peaceful Riemergasse in the First District, the address is a short stroll from St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Ringstrasse, and Stadtpark.
The rooms
Serene layouts pair tailored furnishings with soft gray palettes and graphic black-and-white marble bathrooms detailed in geometric Wiener Werkstätte motifs.
The indoor pool
Bring a swimsuit.
Bookmatched grey marble walls line the subterranean pool, where recessed arched alcoves hold cushioned loungers.
The spa
Seven treatment suites offer waltz-inspired sound rituals alongside skincare therapies from Wildsmith Skin and 111SKIN.
The gym
Set over herringbone parquet, the 120-square-meter fitness center provides dedicated cardio equipment and personal training sessions.
Dogs stay too.
At the table
Under the central glass dome, brasserie dining shares the courtyard with an artisanal pastry café and an evening cocktail bar.
Today, it has been meticulously reimagined by Goddard Littlefair, which restored and reframed the building’s original soul and art nouveau detail without slipping into nostalgia.
How it began

Originally built in 1908 by Alfred Keller as a commercial courthouse, the protected Art Nouveau landmark was revived after decades of disuse.
“The architecture elevates the whole, and it’s evident right from your first encounter with the brand at the entrance lobby’s strikingly elaborate glass chandelier...”
