Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Gahinga Batwa Village sits a short walk across nearby farmland. Further up, park trails climb the slopes of Mount Gahinga.
The rooms
Each banda opens onto a veranda facing the volcanic peaks, with calico curtains and thick woollen bedspreads inside.
The spa
Complimentary massages at Gushimisha Spa include the traditional Rungu with a carved wooden baton. The building also houses a sauna.
At the table
Guests share long communal tables under woven ceiling beams, dining on traditional chicken luwombo steamed in banana leaves.
How it began

Praveen Moman walked the Virungas as a boy before Uganda's 1972 expulsion. Decades later, he returned to build his first safari lodge.
