Desert modernist revival
A sunken living room with a hanging bronze fireplace frames views of Camelback Mountain through vast lobby glass.
“This eye-catching modern resort is well situated on a historic golf course in the upscale enclave of Paradise Valley, surrounded by immaculate mountain views…”
What it’s good at

Mid-century desert modernism featuring stenciled concrete floors, salvaged breeze blocks, and sweeping floor-to-ceiling Camelback Mountain vistas.

In-room cocktail carts, freestanding soaking tubs framing mountain views, and attentive concierge service throughout Paradise Valley.
Notable
An 18-hole par-three championship golf course, twin 75-foot swimming pools, and private cabana service against Camelback Mountain.
What they say
One Michelin Key
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
Mountain Shadows shakes off the stucco kitsch that’s the default Phoenix-area style and opts for something cleaner, more cosmopolitan, and altogether more modern.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Set among the quiet residential lanes of Paradise Valley, the property sits ten minutes from downtown Scottsdale's galleries and dining.
The rooms
Interiors pair concrete ceilings with ash wood frames, custom cocktail carts, and soaking tubs set beside private mountain-view balconies.
The pools
Bring a swimsuit.
Two interconnected 75-foot pools stretch between the wings, lined with private cabanas facing Camelback Mountain.
The gym
The fitness center looks out through floor-to-ceiling glass, hosting daily yoga, mat Pilates, and sound healing sessions.
Dogs stay too.
Restaurant
Hearth '61
Dishes come from an open hearth oven, and the curved marble bar serves cocktails against Mummy Mountain views.
We love Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley, which dates back to 1959 but was redesigned and reopened in 2017, retaining much of its ’60s desert-modern charm.
How it began

A 1959 Hollywood hideaway once frequented by Bob Hope and Lucille Ball was completely rebuilt from the ground up in 2017.
