owner Dakis Jouannou went for something a little bit bolder... hired a pair of genius Brazilian interior architects, Fernando and Humberto Campana, to make a new hotel from the pieces of the old.
“Designed by Brazilian brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana, the 79-room hotel with views of the Acropolis harkens back to classic Greek architecture but is infused with hand-selected luxury design details.”
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Syntagma Square sits two blocks away, and the ancient footpaths of Plaka and the Acropolis are an easy walk away.
The rooms
Floor-to-ceiling windows brighten bamboo floors, and bedrooms keep illuminated glass evil-eye charms mounted beside the beds.
The spa and gym
The private treatment room uses Greek Korres botanicals and heated sea shells. A steam hammam and gym sit nearby.
Restaurant
NEW Taste
Reclaimed timber columns rise between indoor plants, where tables serve Mediterranean dishes and seasonal weekend brunch.
Brazilian designers Humberto and Fernando Campana mixed reclaimed furniture with contemporary art by Jenny Holzer and Laurie Anderson and their own offbeat designs.
Restaurant
Art Lounge
The rooftop terrace looks out toward Lycabettus Hill, serving modern Greek plates and cocktails infused with Chios mastiha.
At the table
The lobby bar sits beneath an oversized paper lamp, pouring Greek spirits and espresso beside walls of salvaged furniture scraps.
How it began

Owner Dakis Joannou gutted the 1958 Olympic Palace Hotel, enlisting architecture students to rebuild the interiors by hand from its own salvaged materials.
