What they say
One Michelin Key
Michelin
Onsen at Moncham builds something unusual around that setting: 24 rooms and suites where Japanese onsen culture and Northern Thai tradition inform every decision.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Set at 1,200 meters elevation in Mon Cham, the retreat overlooks terraced strawberry farms and forested ridges forty minutes from Chiang Mai.
The rooms
Tatami-matted suites feature dark Lanna timber ceilings and shoji screens, while select categories include private onsen tubs drawn from thermal springs.
The onsen
Soak slowly.
Outdoor stone pools are filled with hot mineral water, and bamboo screens shield the indoor soaking tubs.
The gym
Cardio machines and weights face large windows looking out over resort pavilions and forested hills.
At the table
Mi Zü serves Japanese kaiseki and Northern Thai dishes, and Ko Sake pours sake under hanging paper lanterns.
How it began

Architect Krisda Rochanakorn modeled the pavilions after Kyoto's Katsura Imperial Villa, translating classical Japanese ryokan architecture into northern Thai timber craft.
