Delwara
Vibe
Weathered 18th-century fortress ramparts enclose a strikingly minimalist retreat of white marble courtyards, quiet stone arches, and valley viewpoints.
“Minimalist fortress perch”
Minimalist white-marble interiors with lapis lazuli and malachite inlays contrast sharply against the weathered fortress walls.
18th-century fortified hilltop palace restored over fifteen years, featuring original turrets, ramparts, and stone courtyards.
Attentive palace staff, sunken green-marble soaking tubs, and private dining setups across lantern-lit royal turrets.
In the Aravalli Hills above Delwara village, a 45-minute drive north of Udaipur.
“the contrast between the faded majesty of the exterior and the sparkling modernity of the interiors is so striking.”
Rooms
Suites feature all-white marble floors, deep sunken soaking tubs, and carved stone jharokha balconies framing the rolling Aravalli Hills.
“This meticulously restored property retained the structure’s Rajputana arches, courtyards, and turrets, but also introduced modern interiors and eco-conscious updates.”
Wellness
An outdoor heated swimming pool overlooks the valley below, complemented by a Himalayan salt cave, steam rooms, and daily morning yoga.
“The result is nothing short of cinematic, whether you’re taking a walk through the manicured gardens filled with the scent of frangipani”
Backstory
Constructed around 1760 for the rulers of Delwara, the abandoned palace underwent a monumental multi-year restoration by 750 craftsmen before opening in 1999.
Eat & drink
Enjoy seasonal Rajasthani fare on panoramic terraces, or sip cocktails beneath the open stone archways of the poolside bar.
The neighborhood
Perched above rural Delwara, the hilltop fort sits a ten-minute walk from ancient Jain temples and 45 minutes north of Udaipur.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
