Geometric alpine chalet
The Schgaguler family runs this minimalist mountain lodge, where chalk-white concrete gables open wide to the surrounding peaks.
“An eye-catching feature of this hotel is the distinctive exterior, where three very minimal geometrical blocks…offer uninterrupted views of the jagged peaks out in front.”
What it’s good at
Remarkable
White concrete exoskeletons and gables framing honey chestnut interiors and minimalist loggias.

the rooms are plentifully supplied with sunlight, amplified by the blond wood and the gray-on-white color scheme.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Castelrotto's quiet village center sits just outside, with trails leading into the alpine meadows beneath Mount Sciliar.

Honey-colored chestnut walls line the rooms, and selected suites place freestanding soaking tubs beside windows looking across the valley.
The indoor pool
Bring a swimsuit.
A heated 14-meter lap pool uses counter-current swimming jets, bordered by concrete pillars and quiet daybeds.
The saunas and baths
An essential-oil steam bath and timber sauna sit underground, and an outdoor whirlpool looks toward the peaks.
Restaurant Schgaguler
Head chef Giuseppe Petrosino serves Alpine-Mediterranean four-course dinners beside floor-to-ceiling windows looking toward Mount Sciliar.
At the table
The ground-floor bar has an open fireplace and loden armchairs, opening onto a terrace above the village roofs.
How it began

The Schgaguler siblings grew up in their parents' 1980s lodge before teaming up with architect Peter Pichler to rebuild it.
