What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Sengokubara COCON encapsulates the slow-living majesty of Hakone, Japan, a forested highland retreat not far from Mt. Fuji.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Hakone's Sengokuhara highlands sit 800 meters above sea level, surrounded by quiet forests and expansive pampas grass fields.
The rooms
Every suite spans over 92 square meters, complete with an indoor dry sauna and a private Owakudani onsen bath.
The onsen
Soak slowly.
Stone thermal baths look onto a miniature bamboo garden, fed by natural sulfur-rich waters from Owakudani.
The herbal bath
A dedicated medicinal bath is steeped with twelve traditional botanicals, set just beyond the timber changing room.
Restaurant COCON
An open wood-fire oven faces the dining room. Chefs prepare multi-course French menus rooted in fermentation and local produce.
How it began

The building was once a corporate bank lodge with 16 rooms, entirely reconfigured in 2024 into five expansive suites.
