Silverback
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda
Buhoma
Vibe
Upbeat tunes and craft cocktails energise the lodge, where sharp stonework and floor-to-ceiling glass overlook the ancient rainforest canopy.
“Modern rainforest outpost”
Black gloss, local slate, and floor-to-ceiling glass frame custom raffia tub chairs and snare-wire sculptures.
Rooms overlook the Bwindi canopy, complemented by Buhoma village woven furnishings and Ugandan snack pairings.
Dedicated personal butlers manage in-room fireplace lighting, morning coffee service, and post-trek laundry for every nest.
On a forested ridge overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, minutes from the Buhoma gorilla trekking trailhead.
“Twelve rooms on a hillside in Buhoma, each one facing directly onto the cathedral-dense canopy of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, close enough that binoculars are standard equipment.”
Rooms
Each suite opens to a private patio with a sunken stone plunge tub framing uninterrupted views across the dense jungle canopy.
“The hotel is also incredibly chic–with a high-design feel and spectacular energy.”
Wellness
Reached by a stone stairway alongside a waterfall, the open-air pavilion offers hot stone massages to sounds of forest birdsong.
Backstory
Marasa Africa rebuilt the ridge lodge in 2025, discarding vintage safari tropes for hand-trowelled plaster, local slate, and reclaimed snare art.
Eat & drink
Engagi Restaurant and the open forest deck serve seasonal regional dishes like firanda soup alongside Ugandan coffee and fire-pit snacks.
The neighborhood
Perched above Buhoma village, the forested ridge sits five minutes from the national park trailhead for guided mountain gorilla tracking.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
