Elevated canopy treehouses
Conceived as a modern take on childhood treehouses, stilted pods raise daily life directly into the jungle canopy.
What it’s good at
Listed
Indigenous Chorotega culinary traditions and seasonal Guanacaste ingredients define the daily menus.
What they say
Also in Wallpaper*.
Suitree Experience Hotel appears to float above hilltops and trees in rural Costa Rica, in a jungle setting in the country's Guanacaste region.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
In Sardinal's hills on private forest grounds, ten kilometres inland from Playas del Coco.

The rooms
Central spiral staircases lead into teak-clad suites, where wraparound balconies with hammocks face straight into the branches.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
Cascading stone basins trace the hillside like natural river pozas, bordered by timber sun decks beneath the trees.
The swim-up bar
Submerged bar stools line the water beneath a thatched overhang, where drinks are served directly to swimmers.
At the table
An elevated walkway leads through the canopy to Taru, an open-air thatched pavilion serving slow-food Costa Rican dishes.
How it began

Studio Saxe prefabricated the structures off-site and mounted them on steel stilts, keeping every tree on the hillside untouched.

The city grew up with it. Same rituals, same regulars, same bar.

A world of its own. Something to do from breakfast to nightcap.
The scene
Lively
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Central
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
