Venetian-inspired hotel
The property reimagines a Venetian palazzo for the Midwest, setting grand Old World touches beneath a buzzy seventh-floor pool deck.
“The towering lobby is bright and intentional, lit by hand-blown Venetian glass chandeliers and anchored by a massive portrait of a Renaissance-era woman from Seville.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers hang above marble floors inlaid with tile mosaics.
Listed
A house Tesla shuttles guests between Country Club Plaza and nearby cultural institutions.
What they say
Michelin Selected

Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
The Fontaine takes its stylistic cues from Renaissance Venice, which would be enough, on its own, to set it apart from the ordinary business hotels with which it shares its hometown.
In a lively part of town
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Spanish Revival facades and tiled fountains fill Country Club Plaza outside, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is less than a mile away.
The rooms
Bedrooms are finished in cool blue tones with tapestry headboards, and bathrooms have Carrera marble vanities with walk-in rain showers.
The rooftop pool
Bring a swimsuit.
Curtained cabanas and cushioned loungers line the seventh-floor pool, set against a living plant wall.
Restaurant
Country Club Coffee Company
The glass-roofed solarium serves morning espresso and light breakfast bites beside marble-topped tables and woven bistro chairs.
In the hotel lobby, the marble floors are inlaid with tile mosaics, the walls are hung with large-scale Renaissance artworks, and the ceiling is crowned by a brilliant blue, hand-blown Murano chandelier.
Restaurant
Nine Zero One
Wide panorama windows look over the city skyline, and the curved bar serves craft cocktails and seasonal American plates.
At the table
A long wooden table sits before a backlit glass wine wall, set with candles for private dining.
How it began

The building was conceived as an independent boutique contrast to the Plaza's chain hotels, taking the Fontaine name in 2017.
