an abandoned neoclassical bank building and a neighboring Thirties marble office tower have been renovated, converted after a decade left vacant into what has to be one of the Ritz-Carlton chain’s most distinctive properties
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
City Hall stands directly across the street, and the food stalls of Reading Terminal Market are a short walk away.
The rooms
Rooms occupy the adjoining 1930s tower, dressed in bronze and emerald tones with windows looking toward City Hall.
The spa
The third-floor spa draws on Tibetan singing bowl therapy and Balinese rituals. Locker rooms house saunas and steam rooms.
Restaurant
Aqimero
Richard Sandoval's Latin American menu centers on wood-fired steaks and ceviche, served beside a glowing agave cocktail bar.
The building, constructed in 1908, was designed to resemble the Pantheon, complete with large white columns, a portico entrance, and gigantic dome.
At the table
The Lobby Lounge serves cocktails and light fare around a circular bar set beneath the old banking dome.
How it began

The former Girard Trust headquarters sat abandoned for a decade before reopening in 2000 as a hotel.
