MarriottCoral-pink beachfront landmark
This coral-pink landmark preserves 1920s Waikiki glamour, where guests stroll between open courtyards and the ocean surf.
“The sprawling pink landmark sits on more than a dozen acres of beachfront land and is still one of Waikiki's defining images nearly a century after opening.”
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Built in 1927, this Spanish-Moorish palace once sheltered Marilyn Monroe and Hollywood royalty.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler and AFAR.
Long before Waikiki Beach became the buzzing metropolis that it is, a fantastic pink stucco Moorish-style palace was erected on these famous shores.
In a lively part of town
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Kalākaua Avenue's shops and restaurants sit right outside, and Waikiki's surf breaks unfold directly from the sand.
The rooms
Historic Wing rooms keep their classic dark-wood furniture. Mailani Tower rooms open onto private lanais overlooking the ocean.
The water
Bring a swimsuit.
The spa
Abhasa Spa treatments take place outdoors in private cabanas tucked among the Royal Grove's tropical palms.
At the table
Open-air tables look straight onto Waikiki Beach, serving pink pancakes at breakfast and tropical cocktails by the water.
The makeover managed to keep those graceful old bones and art deco flourishes (miles of tile, sweeping arches), while giving the whole place a long overdue upgrade.
How it began

Matson Navigation Company built the resort in 1927, greeting steamship passengers who arrived with steamer trunks and chauffeured cars.
