The Standard Spa, Miami Beach
Miami Beach, Florida
Venetian Islands
Vibe
Guests pad around in white waffle robes, while tropical gardens and pockets of Danish furniture make room for company or solitude.
“Communal bathhouse hideaway”
Communal hammam bathing anchors a thermal circuit with an ice room and arctic plunge.
A driftwood reception desk and orange sofas give the terrazzo lobby its playful character.
The former Lido Spa retains its midcentury facade and original terrazzo lobby floor.
On residential Belle Isle, a short walk across the bridge brings Lincoln Road within reach.
“you’re surrounded by guests in Standard-issue white bathrobes, participating in the communal bathhouse culture of the place and indulging in mud wraps, steam baths”
Rooms
Bath Terrace rooms have outdoor soaking tubs, and leafy walkways connect accommodation arranged around landscaped central gardens.
“The spa has been recently renovated by Shawn Hausman Design… There’s a new ice room tempered to ease the muscles, a stunning cedar-clad sauna…”
Wellness
The Turkish hammam has heated marble, with an aroma steam room, sauna, ice room, Roman waterfall hot tub and arctic plunge completing the circuit.
“The Standard Spa, Miami Beach is less a hotel in the traditional sense, and more a spa with guest rooms set amid tropical gardens.”
Backstory
Before its Lido Spa years, this was the Monterrey Motel, a previous life recalled today in Monterrey Bar’s name.
Eat & drink
Lido Bayside Grill serves seafood beside Biscayne Bay, while Café Standard covers plant-forward breakfasts and lunches, cold-pressed juices and smoothies.
The neighborhood
Residential Belle Isle puts a little water between you and South Beach, with Sunset Harbour’s shops and restaurants a short walk across the bridge.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
