DusitColonial riverfront citadel
White colonnaded facades and whirring ceiling fans welcome travelers into a grand riverside landmark steeped in old Rangoon character.
“Inside, the revamp has preserved key elements of the original design – including the building’s grand structural pillars, the handsome teak wood panelling and the four poster beds…”

What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler, Wallpaper* and AFAR.
Today, after decades of decrepitude followed by a Herculean refurbishment, the Strand is back, the hotel bar providing the natural gathering place for the city’s entrepreneurial class.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Set on Strand Road along the Yangon River, the address sits steps from busy cargo jetties, street stalls, and downtown colonial architecture.
The rooms
Suites pair restored teak parquet floors and four-poster beds with faille curtains, deep soaking bathtubs, and round-the-clock butler service.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
An 18-meter outdoor pool sits in the rear landscaped courtyard, bordered by wooden decking and sun loungers.
The spa and gym
Massage suites administer traditional Myanmar bodywork and floral baths, alongside a gym overlooking the courtyard.
Restaurant
The Strand Café
High tea arrives in lacquered boxes among rattan armchairs, alongside traditional breakfast dishes like mohinga.
Inside, the 31-suite property…evokes a ’30s-inspired cosmopolitanism, with black-and-white-striped faille curtains in the guest rooms and, more playfully, lipstick-red Myanmar rattan chairs in the café.
Sarkies Bar at The Strand
The teak bar pours signature Strand Sours made with Mandalay rum beneath tall ceilings and tiered chandeliers.
How it began

Acquired shortly after its 1901 debut by the Sarkies brothers, this Victorian grande dame later earned a Yangon Heritage Trust Blue Plaque.
“Artisans preserved the abiding sense of history in the original chandeliers, lacquerware, and teak and marble flooring… then updated them with more inviting colors and softer textures.”
