The Well Spa & Hotel
Woodland bathhouse estate
Woodland bathhouse estate
The property runs as an expansive woodland bathhouse, built around continental sauna circuits, heated outdoor pools, and phone-free days in a bathrobe.
“Despite its size, the Well limits daily visitors to a maximum of 700 at a time, which allows it to maintain the vibe and attentiveness levels of a smaller hotel.”
What it’s good at
Exceptional
Northern Europe's largest bathhouse combines fifteen themed saunas with cold plunges and scheduled aufguss rituals.
Notable
Pine-framed architecture housing two hundred contemporary artworks and gold-leaf mosaic bath halls.
Listed
Two forest-view restaurants, outdoor lounging decks, and sculpture trails across the woodland estate.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler.
It’s back to basics at The Well, northern Europe’s largest spa: phones aren’t permitted, and swimwear isn’t allowed in saunas and steam baths.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Forest trails for hiking and cross-country skiing surround the grounds, while central Oslo sits fifteen minutes to the north.
The rooms
Floor-to-ceiling windows look straight into the pines, and rooms keep things simple with parquet floors and Norwegian Wonderland beds.
The pools and gym
Bring a swimsuit.
An indoor pool hall glows beneath faceted ceilings, and treadmills in the gym face straight into the pine forest.
The saunas and baths
Soak slowly.
Sauna masters lead scheduled aufguss rituals before tiered benches, and an outdoor onsen steams among the pines.
At the table
Brasseriet serves casual French plates to guests in bathrobes. On the eighth floor, Mori prepares Nordic-Japanese dishes above the forest.
How it began

Supermarket founder Stein Erik Hagen opened the bathhouse in 2015 to champion continental bathing traditions, adding the hotel tower in 2021.
