Also in Condé Nast Traveler.
Here a pair of D.C.-born sisters with restaurant and hospitality design experience have renovated a quartet of 19th-century buildings into a stylish little inn (the Wildset) and a seafood-focused modern American restaurant, Ruse.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
North Talbot Street's shops sit right outside, and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a short walk toward the harbor.
The rooms
Gas fireplaces warm most rooms, and select categories add deep freestanding soaking tubs or private balconies.
Restaurant
Ruse
The raw bar shucks fresh Chesapeake oysters each evening. Dinner brings seasonal Eastern Shore seafood and small-production natural wines.
How it began

Blacksmith John S. Hambleton bought the property in 1871, converting a village schoolhouse into the Victorian home that now anchors the inn.
