Repurposed Arctic factory
A former cod liver oil factory runs as an Arctic gathering place for climbers, concertgoers, and island travelers.
“Trevarefabrikken now features a small number of guest suites nestled on the ground floor, while the floor above exudes a vibrant energy as a dedicated social setting.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Board-marked concrete and rusted factory machines soften against pale green timber joinery.
What they say
Also in Condé Nast Traveler and Wallpaper*.
There’s an abandoned factory that’s been turned into a hotel, restaurant, and bar called Trevarefabrikken that holds a small music festival in the summer midnight sun and in winter.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Henningsvaer's wooden piers thread across rocky islands, positioned directly beneath the climbing crags of Mount Festvag.
The rooms
Steps formed from reclaimed chimney bricks lead to bedrooms finished in pale green timber and raw factory concrete.
The sauna
Timber benches face an expansive ocean window, and a plunge into the icy Vestfjord waits just across the rocks.
Restaurant
Trandamperiet & Wine Bar
Communal wooden tables look through wide picture windows across the Vestfjord. Sommeliers pour curated wines under exposed concrete beams.
How it began

Four friends on a climbing trip bought the abandoned 1940s building on impulse in 2014, restoring it with local volunteers.
