HyattMid-century desert bungalows
The resort runs like a desert art colony, with low-slung casitas clustered around cactus lawns and mountain-facing pools.
“Designers saved the bungalows from the previous property, but added dramatic, low-slung buildings rich in glass and deep overhangs, plus an ample central pool.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Low-slung mid-century casitas pair deep roof overhangs with Saarinen-style womb chairs.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler, Wallpaper* and AFAR.
cozy bungalow-style guest rooms with sleek modern lines, a warm color scheme, and a folk-art twist.
“The whitewashed walls and grey salvaged wood roofs of the boxy bungalows – which are called ‘studios’ – serve as perfect canvases for one-of-a-kind textile pieces by local artists and colourful modernist furniture.”
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Camelback Mountain rises against the skyline, and the galleries of Old Town Scottsdale sit two miles south.
The rooms
Bungalows have private front entries and enclosed patios, with walk-in showers and colorful handwoven textiles.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
Private hardwood cabanas and cushioned daybeds border the Turquoise Pool, set under palms with an open-air bar.
The spa
Guests blend custom desert botanicals at the spa apothecary, which opens onto private courtyards with outdoor hot tubs.
Dogs stay too.
At the table
Weft & Warp prepares Sonoran dishes at an exhibition plancha grill, and outdoor tables sit beside concrete fire pits.
The Andaz—a sprawling low-profile resort mainly made up of individual bungalow-style rooms—sets itself apart from other resorts in the area in part with its heavy focus on art of all kinds.
How it began

Builders stripped the 1980s Cottonwoods Resort down to its concrete slabs, preserving the low-profile footprint for the new casitas.
