Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Leith Street sits right outside, with Upper Penang Road and the waterfront clan jetties a short walk away.
The rooms
Nineteenth-century Chinese antiques fill the bedrooms, and bathrooms have deep soaking jacuzzis or clawfoot tubs.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The swimming pool sits raised above the Oriental Garden, bordered by dark timber decking and sun loungers.
The Bar
The curved indigo counter serves craft cocktails beneath stained glass windows, with occasional live music on the guzheng.
Today, each of the 18 rooms within its distinctly indigo walls is furnished with antiques and artworks from Tze's family alongside modern amenities such as espresso machines and deep soaking tubs.
At the table
Dinner is served beneath crystal chandeliers in the central courtyard, where menus interpret Penang flavors through contemporary Western cooking.
How it began

Local conservationists rescued the crumbling estate in 1989, hiring specialist artisans to restore its porcelain mosaics and indigo lime wash.
