Theatrical Belle Époque townhouse
The townhouse runs like a decadent turn-of-the-century salon, staging lavish theatrics that shut out the modern city entirely.
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Fin-de-siècle interiors layered with patterned Designers Guild fabrics and rich velvets.
Listed
A ground-floor cocktail bar and a seasonal open-air rooftop terrace for evening drinks.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in AFAR.
Exuberant, eccentric, seductive and possibly a little decadent, this townhouse hotel comes with a theatrical belle époque style, where art ... rich colours add to the joie de vivre.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The surrounding streets sit within Gothenburg's historic moat, just steps from the canal and the gardens of Trädgårdsföreningen.
The rooms
Throne-like beds sit beneath heavy velvet drapes, and bathrooms glow with bright mosaic tile.
At the table
The dining room serves afternoon tea and French-influenced dinners beneath heavy velvet drapes and inside a glass veranda.
The 37 rooms all have their own style, with heavy furniture, theatrical drapes in luxurious velvet, statues, and large oil paintings, all in a color scheme that is anything but shy—think red, gold, and purple.
How it began

Built in 1853 for the city master builder, the townhouse once held a tailoring school before its five-year conversion into a hotel.
