What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Just outside Oberstaufen, Germany, Haubers Naturresort encompasses quite a bit on its 150 acres of grounds: two enormous guesthouses, two alpine pastures, a golf course, a panoramic wellness center, and an entire mountain ridge.
Tucked away
A place apart: the property is the destination.
Oberstaufen sits just down the hill, while private walking paths lead straight up the ridge facing the Nagelfluhkette mountains.
The rooms
Interiors are bright with natural wood finishes, and private balconies look out across the hillside pastures.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The 25-meter outdoor sports pool is heated year-round, and an indoor pool looks out across the alpine meadows.
The sauna
The Finnish sauna is kept at 90 degrees, with floor-to-ceiling glass looking straight out over the bathing lake.
The spa
Beds of dried mountain hay line the relaxation lounges, and treatments include traditional hay baths and therapeutic Schroth packs.
At the table
Evening menus include beef fillet wrapped in estate hay, and Sunday breakfast is served at the open-air ridge pavilion.
How it began

Barbara and Xaver Hauber bought this hillside farm on credit in 1955, and three generations of the family have tended it since.
