What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in Condé Nast Traveler.
After extensive renovations it’s down to just ten pared-down minimalist-chic rooms, which adds to the private-retreat aspect of the place.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Downtown Palm Springs is twenty minutes away by car, and the open trails of Joshua Tree lie just beyond.
The rooms
Low platform beds rest on bamboo rugs against whitewashed walls, with semi-private patios facing the courtyard.
The pool
Bring a swimsuit.
The 85-degree swimming pool sits between palm trees and desert foothills, filled with natural mineral water.
The baths and spa
Circular soaking pools reach up to 104 degrees, and a dedicated treatment room offers facials and restorative massage.
How it began

Two Los Angeles women opened the motel in 1963 as La Bella Sari, drawn by the geothermal aquifer underneath.
“The motel sits on a plot rimmed with oleander trees in a shabby residential neighborhood, and in the evenings Peppas locks the place up tight and guests come and go with their own passkeys.”
