The Dolder Grand
Zurich, Switzerland
Hottingen
Vibe
Set high on the Adlisberg, the hilltop retreat pairs hundred-piece gallery art and sweeping lake vistas with deep forest stillness.
“Hilltop wellness keep”
Personalized butler service, chauffeured house cars, marble bathrooms with steam showers, and attentive hillside hospitality.
A 4,000-square-meter spa featuring a 25-meter indoor pool, Japanese Sunaburo warm pebble loungers, and separate gender thermal zones.
Curving contemporary wings envelop the turreted chateau, framing museum-grade art and an alpine-inspired Rolf Sachs dining room.
On the Adlisberg slopes overlooking Lake Zurich, forest paths outside and the city center twenty minutes away.
“the design restrained and contemporary, the amenities completely up to date, right down to the enormous marble bathrooms.”
Rooms
Modern wing rooms feature curved floor-to-ceiling glass and private balconies, paired with white marble bathrooms overlooking the lake and city.
“What makes the rooms and suites in the luxury hotel so marvelous is that they have been individualized with close attention to detail.”
Wellness
Beyond the outdoor whirlpools and sun terrace lie aroma pools, kotatsu footbaths, cold plunges, and steam rooms across dedicated gender facilities.
“You feel it, as you move from the castle-like main building into the sleek dark gray-glass wings…”
Backstory
Originally founded in 1899 as a restorative Curhaus health retreat, the fairy-tale chateau later gained two curving contemporary wings.
“Inside the freshly minted Saltz … Sachs has conjured an alpine adventure that dabbles on the right side of chalet kitsch”
Eat & drink
Chef Heiko Nieder helms the two-Michelin-starred dining room, while Saltz serves contemporary alpine plates beside hanging climbing ropes.
“It offers breathtaking views of the city, the lake, and even—on clear days—the Alps.”
The neighborhood
Perched on the forested Adlisberg slopes, the grounds connect directly to woodland trails and the historic Dolderbahn funicular into central Zurich.
The app
This is one hotel. The app has every one we rate, in your pocket, for the whole trip.
Our shorthand
What makes a hotel special, how well they pull it off, and what it feels like outside the door.
How well they pull it off
Extremely rare. Sets the global standard.
Brilliant execution. And we’re picky.
They did this well. You’ll notice.
A defining trait. Makes the hotel what it is.
The eight vibes
Architecture and interiors lead. There’s a creative vision at work.
The guest is conspicuously well cared for. Requests met before they’re made.
Rooted in place. Local character runs through the whole stay.
Energy and scene. Where the city goes out, whether or not it’s sleeping here.
A building with history. The story of the place is part of the stay.
Built around feeling better. Rest, sweat, soak, spa.
A hotel the city grew up with. Same rituals, same regulars.
A world of its own. No reason to leave the property.
Scene — what’s outside the door
Where things happen: restaurants, shops, people.
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
A place apart: the property is the destination.
