The Savoy is arguably the original luxury hotel, or at very least the original London luxury hotel, a hotel whose influence is positively Beatlesque.

How it began
Theatrical impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte founded the hotel in 1889, funding it with profits from his Gilbert and Sullivan operettas next door.
