The house
AmanMinimalist alpine lodge
Sunlit salons and crackling fireplaces frame mountain views, while the Pizzinini family preserves the intimate, personal hospitality of an alpine refuge.
“It’s a bold move, but the result is striking, a modern Alpine cocoon that reflects the serenity of its mountain setting.”
What it’s good at
Remarkable
Jean-Michel Gathy shapes traditional chalet timber and stone into pared-back, light-filled spaces.
Remarkable
Dedicated ski butlers coordinate alpine days, while longtime host owners Hugo and Ursula greet guests.
Remarkable
A 20-metre heated outdoor infinity pool and mountain-view Finnish sauna anchor the spa.
What they say
Two Michelin Keys
Michelin
Also in Wallpaper* and AFAR.
Natural materials like wood and stone keep the rooms and suites connected to the landscape, and the simplicity of the styling keeps them equally connected to Aman’s signature aesthetic.
Somewhere quiet
Away from the crowds. Getting around takes intention.
Set directly in pedestrian-friendly San Cassiano, the lodge sits an easy stroll from village bakeries and moments from the Piz Sorega cable car.

The rooms
Rooms pair pale oak and local stone with glass-enclosed fireplaces, opening onto private balconies facing surrounding larch forests and Dolomite peaks.
The pools
Bring a swimsuit.
Heated outdoor lap and hydrotherapy pools look across alpine ridges, and indoor swimming pools gaze onto snowy pine woods.
The sauna
Slatted pale timber benches inside the Finnish sauna look straight out through panoramic glass into the pine forest.
The gym
Finished in pale timber, the fitness centre holds free weights and training equipment alongside an adjoining yoga studio.
At the table
The Grill prepares wood-fired meats and handmade pasta by the hearth, and Il Salotto pours aperitifs beside the grand piano.
The spa was my favorite place in the resort, notably the two outdoor infinity pools, one a warm thermal bath with jets, the other a slightly cooler lap pool
How it began

First opened in 1939 as an alpine inn, the retreat was guided across three generations by the Pizzinini family before joining Aman.
