The 1930s WWJ broadcasting headquarters now runs as a downtown hotel, connecting restored radio studios to a modern tower.
“That old building is where our hotel lobby is, but then you take a bridge over to the new building with all the hotel rooms.”
What it’s good at
Notable
Albert Kahn's 1936 radio studios preserve original terrazzo floors and lighting switchboards.
What they say
Michelin Selected
Michelin
Also in AFAR.
Albert Kahn’s iconic Art Deco–style Walker-Roehrig Building was home to the WWJ news radio station — now, after a significant renovation, it’s the site of one of Detroit’s most stylish lodgings.
Right in the middle
Well-located: walkable to some things, a short ride to more.
The Detroit RiverWalk is a short walk away, and Huntington Place convention center sits just down the street.
The rooms
Rooms occupy the newly built wing. Modular construction keeps things quiet, and bathrooms include Bluetooth vanity mirrors.
The gym
Treadmills face exterior windows beside free weights and strength machines, set among patterned geometric columns.
At the table
Cibo Detroit serves modern Italian dishes beneath statement chandeliers. At Beve, cocktails are poured across a curved wooden bar.
How it began

Fluted limestone was built windowless in 1936 to insulate the broadcast studios from passing street traffic.
